I've received death threats before. From a dude who I used to play games online against. His son, daughter and wife also played. I used to beat them down like nothing else. Then laugh at them. They all lived up in San Jose, which is more of a suburban area.
It went like this: I received an invitation to join a server to play some Unreal Tournament. I join and there are 5 members of this clan [MK] (with names from Mortal Kombat video games) and.. me. I had a friend of mine join the server with me, so it became 4 on 2. Now, for posterity, this server was located in northern california, while I still lived near LA, so these [MK] guys obviously had better connections than me. That didn't matter though. We whooped their asses so fucking hard, it was the start of a long, hated rivalry. (oh wait.. rivarlies actually include competition)
To make a long story short, though, they started practicing... and specifically went after me and my other team members when they found them in public servers. It was suspicious how they went from 'sucky' to 'competent' so fast, but never the less, I continued to dominate them. In fact, I played better against skill than I do against crap, so it only pissed them off further. Eventually, it got personal and I received many insults and threats from these people. One was specifically that this guy would come to my house and beat me to death with a baseball bat.
I would say, "Parents, don't let your kids game unsupervised," but when it's the parents who are flagrantly INSANE - something is fucking wrong.
In conclusion, death threats are not a phenomenon, they are a product of irrational hate. Many times it equates to insanity.
