I'm not HOH, but I do have an auditory problem.
It's called Central Auditory Processing Deficit. I've been having problems with it for about three years now, but only in the last year and a half has it become problematic. It's normally found in younger people, so i'm a bit of a late bloomer (and i didn't actually notice until later like i said). If you put your hands over your ears and try talking, you'll notice it sounds muffled and you have trouble distinguishing some words. I have that when there's more than one noise in the same range occuring around me.
Really fuzzy explanation and not very in deapth but i don't want to bore anyone with the details. PM me if you're really interested, or just google CAPD.
No cure, and a hearing aid won't help. Only this special training (think physiotherapy for your auditory nerves) is HELLA expensive, not covered under medical, and will only provide a bit of ease when dealing with this.
