Well, the nerves in your ear are much more sensitive at higher frequencies, and that's part of the reason for the higher damage levels. I lost my hearing from spinal meningitis as a baby 20 years ago, and have been wearing a BTE in my right ear (completely deaf in my left) since then. The ITE aren't powerful enough for me moderate-severe loss, but I'm loving my digital Phonak.
