I believe the fact that he used to be a Baptist minister explains a lot.
But seeing as Ashlee can't do live performances and doesn't look nearly as good as Jessica, and doesn't have a trademark characteristic like Jessica's ditziness, she is going to fade into obscurity fairly soon, right now she's just banking on Jessica's success.
