Besides that, alcohol tastes good. At least that is the main reason one should have for drinking it.
While a pharmacist or physician will differentiate between different drugs in the same class for a variety of reasons (pharmacodynamics, route of excretion, allergies, specificity of action at receptor site, cost, and others), it is reasonable for the lay person to lump all of the drugs in a class together. Xanax is just a more rapidly acting valium, and that is exactly what makes it so much more addictive. It is usefull in panic disorders under the close supervision of a physician and pharmacist. But you don't describe anything that comes remotely close an indication for the drug. You really need to talk to someone. Maybe a counseler. Maybe a physician. Maybe a friend or family member. Drugs are not the first choice. (That includes alcohol and tabacco.)
