ummno, it hasn't. SCSI gear has never been mainstream among consumer-grade machinery, but you can certainly still find SCSI-equipped workstations and servers on the market. Those who would benefit from SCSI performance and capabilities are willing to seek it out and pay for it, because it is a legitimate investment.
But I digress, this isn't the place to take people over my knee.
I would recommend Adaptec's
2906 which will handle any narrow SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 devices, and provides the same DB25 external port as your previous card. This newer product would likely be a more appropriate choice than the (gracefully) aging 2940. It's natively supported by nearly all modern OSen. It does not have a bootrom, so you will not have to worry about it conflicting with a graphics card (even today, it can still happen). You will find this card at many chain stores and online vendors.
