SCSI Scanner
Hi everyone, I have a good question.
I have an older SCSI 1 scanner, which does a good job and still works. I would like to use it with my new PC, but the SCSI card that came with the scanner is an ISA card, which is not supported in my new PC. The connector on the back of the scanner is a DB 25-pin SCSI (I believe). Any suggestions? Thanks |

You will have to buy a new SCSI card... and an adapter cable.
Fortunately, non-RAID SCSI has gone out of style, so there are plenty of old cards availible, here is one that should work very nicely for you: http://store.yahoo.com/livewarehouse/adahpcschoad.html *Note: I have no experience with this store, they are just someone random I pulled out of google. But the price seems really nice.* The modern scsi controllers can talk to old scsi devices, so unless you get an LVD controller, you should be great (the link I gave you was not for a LVD controller). So just find an adapter, or a special cable that will convert from 50-pin SCSI-2 to 25-pin SCSI-1 |

But I digress, this isn't the place to take people over my knee. I would recommend Adaptec's 2906 which will handle any narrow SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 devices, and provides the same DB25 external port as your previous card. This newer product would likely be a more appropriate choice than the (gracefully) aging 2940. It's natively supported by nearly all modern OSen. It does not have a bootrom, so you will not have to worry about it conflicting with a graphics card (even today, it can still happen). You will find this card at many chain stores and online vendors.
