I have a dead one of these on my bench which was brought in with similar problems. I tried the things you did and then the stupid thing quit. Dead.
I am a HP dealer and called HP for support but got the "We no longer support that product" answer.... that was helpful.
You didn't pay too much for it.... so consider it dead. Remember it will cost more to repair it than its worth.
