I did a ton of TV research a few months back for a 32inch 4:3 TV (not widescreen). What I've found is this: Sony is (more or less) always going to have the best picture quality but you're paying at least $200+ more than a TV of the same size with similar features. What I've seen happen is other respectable companies like Zenith and Phillips (or is it Panasonic...?) will come and go with the "bang for your buck" TV's. One will release new technology and will temporarily have better picture quality and then the other will release a new line and the demand will shift. If you want to get into all of this (price is the only reason to, unless you're a bargain-hunter by nature), I'd shift you to find a TV/Video forum where people know the newest of new numbers and know everything that's available as of yesterday. If you've got some extra cash, go buy a nice Sony HD tv and be on with your day. I personally did all the research and wound up buying a Sony last minute over a competing Zenith.

Best of luck, hopefully I've been of some help.
