i have a problem

my brothers computer is telling me there is a USB malfunction and i am not able to use the printer since it is connect to the computer but oddly the mouse still works fine and it is also connected to the usb port. I tried unplugging the printer port usb out then back in but the funny thing is that sometimes it tells me there is a usb malfunction and it cannot locate hardware and sometimes it locates the printer……… I tired all usb ports but same thing happens. I also tried uninstalling the printer drivers and reinstalling but same outcome. And when it does locate the printer I am able to printer but when I shut off the computer for a day it will go back to not working

anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
