I'm not a birt, but I can tell you living in America, the problem of kids just blindly following everything they see on media is alarming. Till now I haven't known any generation that are made to be drones, just following the latest fad and trend their 'pop idol' or hero has set.
The root of all this problem would be lack of parenting. Nowdays, here, parents just "don't have that kind of time." They give them TV, food and money for clothes and don't even know what their kids are upto and if they are getting enough learning and experience (that their parents can teach them).
Whoops almost went on a rant there, but yea, its pretty much becoming a big problem.
