Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
I hadn't actually heard this one spoken aloud until, of all things, they recited the first stanza in a commercial on the Sci-fi channel for Firestarter:Rekindled. But I was hooked on it from that point on. There was just something about hearing it aloud that triggered a big emotional response that I still don't understand.
