It is ok. Here are the pros and cons as far as I am concerned. Let me start out by saying I played GR and GRIT for more than 120 hours, and really did love both games.
1) I have had errors with this disk locking up and making me restart my Xbox. I have had 4 people ask me about this online also, so it isn't a random event. And no, 2 of the people had Xboxes that were less than 6 months old, so it isn't a Thompson issue.
2) The weapon loadouts are more realistic than previously, you actually carry a Master weapon, sidearm or grenade launcher, rocket launcher, and grenades. Your main weapon is chosen much like before, choose a class then choose a weapon.
3) The third party view is going to take some getting used to. When you zoom in, you zoom from over the shoulder, instead of previously where your screen just zoomed in.
4) The online game finding and friends system is POORLY laid out. Some of the biggest complaints about the previous versions were you had to hit start, choose online options, then friends list. THEY DIDN"T CHANGE IT. If people complain about something, change it. It can be VERY clunky to send invites and manage your friends in this game.
5) Graphics are good, better than before and better than I expected. It also looks like they did some great motion capture for their movements. The movements are realistic looking, and not robotic.
6) AI sucks. Just like the previous versions, guys will just charge you in lone wolf mode instead of using flanking or cover and move techniques. However, online play (team or solo) does increase the oppositions abilities.
7) If carpet bombers and such annoyed you before, this game will PISS YOU OFF. Now people can take grenade launchers, AND ROCKET LAUNCHERS, AND GRENADES at the same time. Oh yeah.. and airstrikes.
8) Maps are AWESOME. I have to give props where props are due. HUGE, well detailed, ton's of hiding places.... This part of the game gets a 10/10.
If you like military simulation games, Red Storm continues to rule the roost. Rainbow Six and GR2 are strategy, simulation type games. No bunnyhopping Halo2 jump and gun fights here. One or two shots and you are dead. I don't know if simulation games have just raised the bar, or if this game just doesn't excite me. Yes it is fun to play, but I find myself losing interest quickly. Online it can be tough to find players, and it can be even harder to keep them.
Overall, here are my scores:
Graphics 9/10
Sound 8/10 (no barking dogs this time!)
Online 7/10 (Lost points for hiding friends list options, and lost points for ease of finding games. Halo2 online matchmaking and parties options just set the bar extremely high. This score is not reflecting how the game plays online, just how hard it is to manage the online options and ease of finding games)
Gameplay 8.5/10 (Lost points because they increased the ability to carry even MORE explosives, instead of less.. I know, you can turn it off but there aren't enough people playing the game to alienate some of those that are)
Overall: 8/10... Am I sad I bought it? No... I just feel sorry for Red Storm trying to compete against Halo 2. Poor timing on bringing this game out.
