I think Everquest being the first popular MMO became the microcosm to describe any MMO. All MMOs, IMO, are addictive. They are extremely fun, if you get into them, plus you see $15 on your credit card every month and you want to make the most of it. However, if you can supress your addictive nature and just play a little, WoW seems to be very friendly to the casual ~10 a week player. If you can only find less time (that's 40 hours a month) a game like Neverwinter Nights or Morrowind might be more up your alley as they are some what MMOish (Morrowind more then NWN but NWN has more unofficial add-on levels). I'm getting my WoW fix today and will get to play tomorrow, I'm feeling withdrawl symptoms since the open beta
