I've been ovo-lacto for almost 4 years, and in the last year or so I also decided to lose some weight. Through a combination of cutting down on my portions and being more careful with fat and calories I've been able to lose around 75 pounds in less than a year.
As for iron, I really don't take any supplements for it. I tend to get most of the nutrients I need through my diet.
And I fully agree with the annoyance of people constantly suggesting fish and chicken. It took me months to make my family understand that chicken IS indeed a meat!
