You got a Sony "My First Computer!!" You lucky dog you...
If you ever figure out why they partition the drive into C and D with an itty bitty C, even though that's where all the XP "My Everything" default to, lemme know.
(Enough people with Sony boxes run into this amazing "My hd is full" bit, the first two months they have it. My response to that is, "How? You don't DO anything." Upon investigation, the D partition is empty, but My Documents is chock full. What a wonderful world...)
On the upside, you already know you want XP pro. Go buy a whitebox copy, aka OEM copy, and install it. Since you're at it, you can partition the drive in a usefull manner.
