my new X Rated comp (SFW)
Ok, so those that read my last post prob know it died a very random and sudden death..it was 7 years old and i was fairly unattached to the cheap beige box of crap...but today i have a new computer and it is absolutly gorgeous. Yes it is a fashion accessory and way over priced but 1) i didn't pay for it and 2) its so gorgeous....
http://www.askdirect.co.uk/uview?cal...Search&id=5412 the picture doesn't do it justice, in visual terms the v2 is amazing...but after 30seconds i found one problem...it comes with XP Home...bugger!

You got a Sony "My First Computer!!" You lucky dog you...
If you ever figure out why they partition the drive into C and D with an itty bitty C, even though that's where all the XP "My Everything" default to, lemme know. (Enough people with Sony boxes run into this amazing "My hd is full" bit, the first two months they have it. My response to that is, "How? You don't DO anything." Upon investigation, the D partition is empty, but My Documents is chock full. What a wonderful world...) On the upside, you already know you want XP pro. Go buy a whitebox copy, aka OEM copy, and install it. Since you're at it, you can partition the drive in a usefull manner.

DND: the only real reasons you would want XP pro is for an encrypted file system capability and also the ability to join / authenticate to a domain.

justdisguy: please realize i didn't care to list more than what i did.
i do understand that there are a few more reasons, none of which really need to be listed.

(note to thread readers)
We're approaching the part of the thread where two repondants will start bitching at each other for something only teniously related to the actual subject at hand. See "Billege's Rules of Thread Response Patterns" rule 2b, subsection 3.1. Thank you. That is all.

any way to have different types of users in XP home ie something between administrator and limited?
but have to agree the stupid resolution is bearable but the sound quality is surprisingly good and now connecting my xbox to it has made me even happier!

What do you mean? Of course there are parties. And, unlike the good ol' States, there are more than two effective parties. You have Windows XP Windows 2003 Windows 9x Linux -- Redhat/Fedora Linux -- Mandrake Linux -- Debian Linux -- Other Mac And others of course. I only chose three windows because I doubt people are still running 3.1, and ME seems to be generally hated. You get the idea. Arguments can get pretty heated... |
