Why are people surprised that it's $200?
I doubt they're eating $70 per unit sold. How would you make money?
It's probably a lot cheaper than you think it is to make one, especially considering the technology is already 6+ years old (PS2 development started.. when, '98? Probably before that..)
The PS2 itself is currently $150, and the new PS2 coming out is WAYYYY smaller. So.. shrink it just a bit more, I can understand the $195 price tag.

Think of it this way... XBox is, what, $150? It has.. a PIII 800 and an 8 gig drive, right? You could put that together yourself for well under $100. Mass produce them at the level they are, the price drops significantly.
