Seriously, the more I think about this, the more it bothers me... to this DAY I haven't beaten a single puzzle in Riven.
And not 3 months goes by when I think to myself, "I should load it back up and give it another shot"... but then I think of all the RANDOM switches and crap that has no immediate correlation to anything whatsoever, then I weep. I know there's a solution to it all, obviously, but jesus...
I mean... you get to the part with the lake, turn the boiler thing off, go into the tunnels, put the pebbles/food type stuff on the "scale" lookin thing, something jumps, but really, nothing happens. So you're all, "great, I just spent this time getting somewhere that's really gotten me nowhere."
Or the part with the "whirlpools" in the water where you travel under them in the oven-looking vehicle... got nowhere with that. There's something there, alright, but... yeah, wtf?
I know I could look up the solutions, but damn, even after 7 years I still feel that'd be a major cop-out to this game. ONE DAY. Maybe 10 years from now I'll figure it out, haha.
At least in Myst you had CLUES... like "hm, this BOAT IN THE WELL looks like the damn boat in the lake over there... well, what are these SYMBOLS for?" or the clocktower/tree thing.
Not immediately obvious, but again, not entirely impossible or complex.
