I trade using technical analysis. It works for me. Warren Buffett has had a bit of success with fundamental analysis. For other folks who don't have the time or interest to manage positions daily, an index fund might be just the ticket.
The key is that you find something that works for you and stick with it. Too many people decide they want to be "traders" only to find out they have no idea how to manage money. The most common manifestation of this is buying stock using TA, then having it move against you and deciding it's really an "investment" now.
Rather than the trading style, you should devote time to principles of money management. First lesson to be learned, and usually the hardest because it wounds our pride when we do it, is how and when to take a loss and move on.
