I've shot them side-by-side, and the ROF on the 42 is so fast that your shoulder doesn't have enough time to recover from the recoil. In a heavy mount (ie a tripod or pintle mount of some form) that's not a big deal, but if you're firing off of a bipod, the '42 is pretty much impossible to control, and the '34 is much easier.
