I'd say that if you are having the problems that F1_fan reported, then you are using/have very crappy media. In general, if changing the media fixes your problem then you either got a bad batch of discs OR you are using some generic media that will prob die within a few months.
Note: The drive stopping/restarting could always be a system problem, but in the case f1_fan mentioned, it would be more likely a media issue.
