A "double tap" is two rounds fired in rapid succession after sighting the target only once. The modern defensive pistol technique (or "Mozambique") does NOT advocate the "double tap." Instead it teaches two shots fired - each one sighted properly but with speed. This is what's known as a "controlled pair."
