I used to get them all the time as a kid. Slight bumps, picking, any kind of agitation would cause it. I remember going to the ENT doctor and found out that I had some kind of loose vein, or some kind of vein problem. The doctor did someting (don't think it was cauterized, but it was a WHILE ago), and I haven't been as bad since. I still get them occassionally (im now 21), when the weather changes, but its not bad at all. Them seem to be slowing down as I get older.
Sorry to be so light on the details, if you really want to know more I can ask my parents exactly what the ENT did.
