Not being familiar with the particular problem you're having, and not having used Flash in years...
Is your text box too small? I seem to remember some feature that would just let the text appear IN the text box. Other programs automatically resize the text box when it gets overfilled, but for Flash, where displaying text in a specific way is important, that might not be the case. I can't really be sure.
Or... is it a layering issue? Make sure the text is at the very top layer. It could be going behind some other object that you didn't know was there.
