Don't rely on pepper spray for anything! I have watched at least two people smile and lick it off their lips and keep doing what they were doing.
Unless you are spraying straight pepper extract, something like Caldera
Caldera, 16,000,000 Scoville Units, I wouldn't count on doing anything more than pissing off the target.
If it won't effectively kill the target, then don't shoot it. IMHO, I think further pissing off someone intending you do you harm is not the best approach to dealing with the situation. Running is good. ;-)
