I did a little looking around on the Net. AIU has some basic credentialling; it handles business training for some large corporations. I read a comment or two on boards from people who were underwhelmed at the quality of the online training.
Thing is, AIU is not only online, but specializes in accelerated degree programs -- get your degree FAST! I just graduated from an accelerated degree program at a public university, and I have some real problems with the concept. Basically, you have so many hoops to jump through in such a short amount of time that you don't really learn very much. It'd be even worse if he was taking the classes online, with limited contact with instructors and other students. And I doubt that the instructors are particularly great.
There are good distance learning programs out there, some from good public universities. Tell him to keep looking, and to stay away from the accelerated crap.
