I thought it was great! The "holy shit" factor was extremely high... there were many scenes that made the majority of the audience gasp, jump, or scream outright. Even I jumped in my seat a few times, and I never jump.
True, there were some awkward scenes that were somewhat laughable, but the movie was overall very entertaining. And if you're afraid of aliens, this will scare the shit out of you.
