If you're looking at a steering or suspension joint which doesn't have a zerk fitting, clean it off. Some fittings are tapped for the zerk fitting, but have a small hex plug in the hole instead. You can buy a package of straight, 45° and 90° fittings at an auto parts store for a few dollars-install them with a small wrench and get greasin'. If your vehicle is RWD, don't forget all of the U-joints in the driveshaft.
