I usually only drink a shake with whey after my workout. A scoop of 30 grams in a small glass of 1% milk. After your workout, your body looks to feed the muscles. A lot of what I have heard is that you should get in a sitting of protein within 30 minutes of a workout. Your body absorbs it better in this time frame.
Don't go overboard with the protein powder though. Your body cannot use more than around 40 grams per sitting. The rest will either be flushed from your system, or stored as fat.
