I'm in the middle of a diet right now, and it's the first time I've ever been able to stick to anything. I like challenges, so I've limited my calories, and try to find the most filling, best tasting food I can for those calories. 100 calories of broccoli is a LOT compared to say, 100 calories of cake.
Portion control and counting calories are the things that have worked the best for me. I've lost 30 lbs now and have 30 more to go for my first goal. It hasn't been easy in the short term, but I agree with the clothes thing. I've lost all my college weight now, and am fitting back into my high school clothes (I'm a junior, and gained the freshman 15 AND the sophomore 15).
I try to work out as much as I can, but that sometimes only amounts to 2 times a week due to school.
