I've been using Gmail for a few months now and haven't gotten one spam mail in my inbox as of yet. I've been using this address for anything and everything I've signed up for online, but with that being said, I haven't signed up for much. It still might be a good idea to keep a "spam" mail account just in case. Or you could use <a href="http://www.dodgeit.com">dodgeit</a>. When you're signing up for something that could yield spam, just fill in a <yourname>@dodgeit.com adderess, then go to the dodgeit site, sign in (you won't need a password or a "real" account because this is just a temporary account anyway), and you can reply back to complete the registration or whatever you need to do without actually signing up for anything. I probably didn't give a good explaination of this, so if you'd like to know more, just ask.
