I had my tubes tied as my husband at the time would not consider a vasectomy. The procedure itself was fine with minimal discomfort afterwards but...and there is a but. From then on in my usually heavy periods became even worse. I mentioned it to my GP who blithely remarked...oh yes that's a common side effect. Nodody mentioned that to me at the time and I was furious because I wouldn't have had it done if I'd known. I haven't researched this as I felt at the time it was too late so I don't know if it was generally accepted wisdom or just my GP's experience. Might be worth asking your gynaecologists view on this before you decide.
