I think my dad's official title was "Network Engineer and Analyst." Before that, he did work on microwave transmitters (layoffs got him,) and before that he did various jobs on the Hubble Telescope (before you ask, no, he was not the one who screwed up the optics
) That job ended in a layoff after the telescope was launched and Perkin Elmer downsized. Way back in the day, he did Airforce radio intelligence, observing Soviet flight patterns and working on decoding transmissions. I still have an original copy of the commendation he got from the president after he broke a Soviet communications code. Among the papers, I also have a letter from the base commander informing him that his hairstyle did not meet USAF standards and to report to the barber within two days. What I don't have a copy of, but wish I did, is the paperwork informing him that he was going to be court-martialed after a potato chip was found under his bed (yes, one single alleged potato chip. He never saw any disciplinary action because he was able to prove that it was actually a footprint from when someone with ridged boot heels stepped in wet paint.)
He also would have been a great pro hockey coach or manager, having coached the local High School team to the state championships during his time as coach there.
My mother currently works as the Educational Programs Coordinator of a local museum, and it is a good job for her, but doesn't pay nearly enough to support the family after my dad died. With a Masters in English and an MBA, she could do a whole lot of other things. One of her former jobs was a management position at Chamion/International Paper.
