I work at Gap (not THE Gap - that's a pet peeve of mine) during the school year. I don't know what we have this summer. I remember having linen pants for men in the past, so it's very possible that they are for men.
Both men and women's clothing (shirts and some pants) come in S/M/L sizes, so you wouldn't be able to tell just from that. Even if they are women's pants, I wouldn't worry about it. Those kind of pants (Sweat pants, linen pants, etc.) are pretty universal. I say if they fit, and you like the way they look/feel, then just wear them.
If you really want to know, just call Gap and ask them if they carry linen pants for men.
