question about clothing..serious, but kinda funny
ok, so i'm finally in manhattan ( i like saying that) and i'm shopping and the gap has a sale on linen/cotton pants. I love linen/cotton anything, so i snag a pair and notice they have a drawstring...odd..and the sizes are s/m/l style instead of 32/30 or whatever...
i try them on...sooo comfy and they make my butt look great.. So..are they men or women's pants...I honestly can't tell how can you tell these things?

Checked the website to see if there was anything close... and they really didn't have anything linen. There was a pair of men's pants with a drawstring waist that came in s/m/l -
Generally the biggest difference is men's pants the hip size and waist size are pretty close in size - women's pants -- even with draw string waists- curve a little bit. Baby, if they make your butt look good -- BUY THEM!

I bought a pair of womens pants on accident while i was in Taiwan. I didn't realize that they were girl pants until i was back in america...they looked good on me but it was kinda weird seeing girls sporting similar pants. My opinion is this: If they look good, and you can sport them w/ style, BUY (& wear) THEM! |

see, normally i;d agree, but this store had women's side, men's side, and center....these were in the center....no manequin wearing them
they are drawstring pants, so maybe it's men or women. They are too warm, however, for daytime in the city, but they are comfy and make my butt look good, so i'm happy. Heck, at only $20, i'm not really complaining either way. I've also heard that some male models wear women's jeans bc they accentuate the glutes, so who knows...

I think I'll second the sentiment that if you feel comfortable wearing them and they look good on ya, then why should it matter if its guy pants or girl pants?
Its not like they have "princess" or "sexy babe" printed on the ass?....... Or do they?

I know that a shirt isn't a pair of pants, but I once tried on a sirt sleeve button down shirt I found hanging in the men's section and really liked it, so when I went to the register to buy it, the clerk asked me if I was buying it for my gf and I responded "no", it was for me. I asked how why and she told me that she could tell it was a woman's shirt since the buttons were on the left side. Go figure!

From the time I was a young teenager, I had to wear men's pants because way back then, women's didn't come in length choices. Got wierd looks from the salesmen as I went to try them on, but who cared-it was better than wearing 'floods'.... |

I work at Gap (not THE Gap - that's a pet peeve of mine) during the school year. I don't know what we have this summer. I remember having linen pants for men in the past, so it's very possible that they are for men.
Both men and women's clothing (shirts and some pants) come in S/M/L sizes, so you wouldn't be able to tell just from that. Even if they are women's pants, I wouldn't worry about it. Those kind of pants (Sweat pants, linen pants, etc.) are pretty universal. I say if they fit, and you like the way they look/feel, then just wear them. If you really want to know, just call Gap and ask them if they carry linen pants for men.

The thing about Gap is, a lot of their men's pants aren't made to fit the average man. I looked in several different Gap locations for 2 weeks to find a pair of pants I had owned quite a while ago and worn until they were threads and at every location I left dissatisfied. Apparently men who aren't looking to spend $36.50 on a pair of jeans that fit like a wet paper bag should shop elsewhere.
(and to finally be on topic) Women can get away with wearing men's clothes but more important than anything else, if you like the way it looks on you, wear what you want.

Oh well thats cool. All the jeans I like are usually like 30 fuckin bucks. So I usually just buy a jacket instead for the same price....I have a lot of jackets actually..cept I live in Texas so I hardly ever need em. Not enough places to buy dope pants where I live. Or used to live. I used to have Gadzooks but then that turned into an all chicks store then they closed down. Then theres Hot Topic but it's hard to find pants there that aren't Plad and super mega wide...I stopped wearin my pants super wide...good thing San Antonio's close now.

My favorite thing to see on the street in this city is a person owning what they wear. I've seen lots of men wearing those kind of pants in my time and the only ones who looked silly were the ones that didn't look comfortable in them. Besides, the latest and most feminine looking fad in men's pants has got to be the clam-diggers/high-waters/capris (whatever you call them where you're from) that seem to be all the rage in Europe. They're making their way over, and I can't say they look half bad on the right body types. Enjoy your pants.
