I've never seen a normal CD player or stereo that lists song title and band. I've always just seen track numbers. Even on regular CDs I bought (not burned). MP3 players of course show the name, and I've had some trouble with naming as well.
Only thing I can suggest is that most mp3 files have a space between the dashes. Example:
03 - Incibus - Megalomaniac.mp3
Don't know if this will help or not.
Also, you mentioned converting them to mp3 format. Why do you need to do that? What do you rip them into? I use MusicMatch Jukebox to rip CDs, and it rips them straight to mp3, no questions asked.
