really painful periods can be a sign of endrometriosis - ( there's a link posted in one of the threads in this forum)

Putting on my, overprotective I'm not a mom, I just pretend to be one hat.

It could be a lot of things, but when you go to the doctor be sure to mention irregular periods (which is sounds like you have) and the painfulness -- (and..... I know from personal experience -- if they don't take you seriously and tell you to just take advil - find another doctor --

Before you get undressed and stirruped, you want to have a talk with teh doctor and mention these symptoms (we tend to get a little forgetful when we're nekkid and vulnerable)

Birth control pills should make your cycle more regular.
