It does sound like it could be the power supply, but it wasn't I think?
After all that crap about having all the latest antivirus updates, and window updates, and a firewall, it turns out that it was a virus.
In order to get windows going, I had to remove my 2nd hdd otherwords windows wouldn't boot (maybe this is related to the power supply?).
Next as soon as I would log-in I would try to run a virus scan. About less than a minute into the virus scan the video would cut out, but the hdd light would still be running.
I then wanted to find out if the hdd was still running or if everything was just frozen, so I rebooted, and this time open media player, and started a song. Then I opened up my antivirus program, and ran it. 45 seconds later, again the video went out, and the song stopped and sounded like a long awful screech.
I then tried uninstalling and installing a new antivirus, and one of the first things that any antivirus program will do before installing it onto your computer is scan for viruses. Well apparently whatever this virus was, didn't like that, and decided to shut the video and I guess freeze everything up.
After I rebooted, I decided to check all the running tasks in the background, nothing was amiss.
It looks like this virus, was pretty intelligent, and was designed to crap out your system as soon as it is threatened, by such things as a virusscan. I then started to look for a antivirus that can run from command prompt, but I was so aggitated by this time, and I had spent over 2 hours looking for something, that I decided to give up & start backing up.
I then spent the next 3 hours backing data, not knowing if any of the files I was backing up, had this virus or not.
I then reformatted everything, installed windows again. So far I can't even bring myself to install all those programs again.
Im kind of glad that I reformatted, because, I could of ignored it, and everything would be fine, the proof being that I spent about 3 hours of backing up data and my machine was fine, it didn't even shutdown, but the thing is it would always be in the back of my mind, and I wouldn't be able to rest.
