That's just the thing. I've talked to quite a few people who "have a friend", or a friend of a friend, or who have heard of someone who has gained from these types of things, but I've failed to actually talk to anyone that has gotten anything from them. I would strongly recommend staying away from anything that sounds this fishy. Also, like yatzr said, these kinds of things seem to only benefit the first few people that sign up, if anyone at all. What if you sign up, but are the last person to do so? The upside to this, however, is that hopefully you didn't lose too much money.
That being said, neither I nor anyone else can make your decisions for you. Read up on that particular company and make an informed decision based on what others have said.
Edit: I got bored, so I thought I'd take a look at their site. This is a snippit from their personal information policy.
"We do not sell or rent information about our customers or email lists to third parties. However, we may share this information with our partners and affiliates to enable them to provide you with special benefits, offers, and promotions."
I wonder who their partners and affiliates are?
