we used to hanve the birds come down the chimney into the fireplace, the fireplace was cast iron and had a door on it.
when we first moved in i told my parents "something is in the fireplace" they didnt beleive me...
anyways until we took the fireplace out we had a few occasions where we'd open the fireplace door then the birds would run/fly around our house and we'd hace to chase them out... good times
