Jung frequently wrote about an "average run of experience" that every man goes through, which I take to mean that we are all the same in most fundamental respects. As regards Americans, consider that, despite superficial differences in our lifestyle choices, most people tend to strive for a collectively defined "American Dream". The fact that companies can build a huge chain of stores or restaurants or mass-produce products that become very profitable by satisfying most people's tastes seems to negate for the most part the idea that we are all unique individuals.
