Very emotional thread. Its amazing when these things happen right in front of us.
After reading your story about the incident, one question pops in my mind. I ask only out of curiousity.
At first you mentioned:

Where you able to identify the shooter? Hopefully that will help the police find the guy.
45 minutes is ridiculous for a response time - I would complain about it. My concern would be a repeat performance by the police , but this time it would be about somebody I cared for.
