Sorry to hear about what you saw.
I've seen things people shouldn't have as well. Similar to what you had. It's terrifying knowing that it could just "happen" and that there's not a whole lot you can do about it during the moment. Nobody blames you for not going down there. You do what you can. Calling for the cops is all you could have done without endangering yourself, or your friends.
Be careful though. If the party downstairs knows that you are witnesses, I'd keep an eye out for a bit.
Sometimes - I know the police take awhile to reach a crime scene depending on the situation. Even though they're there to serve and protect, they're human too. Sometimes I hear that they take their time reaching calls like that b/c it is dangerous. Nobody wants to die.
I hope the whole gangster thing passes sometime soon. Pride is something not worth dying for. I hate needless violence.
