When I try to conceptualize God, I think of Him as all possibilities in potentia. Following from that, if any purpose for creating the universe can be ascribed to God, it is that He wants that potential to unfold and every possibility to be realized. Organic life is a particularly useful channel for effecting that purpose because of the way in which more complex entities evolve through the dissolution and recombination of simpler ones.
