I don't think its cool to hate on Barry Bonds right now. More like, he is entitled to his opinions but he has made some pretty in my mind dumb comments in the past. The preception that he puts out is that hes just a me first asshole. One that stands out particularly in my mind is when he commented on how much better he was than Babe Ruth.
"Willie's number is always the one that I've strived for," Bonds said before the All-Star Game on Tuesday. "And if it does happen, the only number I care about is Babe Ruth's. Because as a left-handed hitter, I wiped him out. That's it. And in the baseball world, Babe Ruth's everything, right? I got his slugging percentage and I'll take his home runs and that's it. Don't talk about him no more."
Statistically it is the truth. But his arrogance to suggest such a thing in my mind is what sets him apart from what the Babe is and what others like Willy Mays and Ted Williams. Those men are legends, when Bonds retires and years down the line, I don't think we'll be talking about him in a myth like status that we do for other ballplayers. Bonds is just too me first for me to really latch onto him.
Keep in mind that Babe Ruth has a assload of shutouts, and then transitioning from pitcher to hitter to become one of the greatest hitters of all time.
