I know I tend to make blanket statements, but in that case I was specifically referring to the trouble that guy and his girl were having.
lurkette and I didn't add lube to our repertoire until many years after we started having sex. And it DID improve things--sometimes we're impatient and don't want a lot of foreplay, and lube makes that possible. Or sometimes she's like "willing but lazy, only sorta halfway in the mood" and lube is a total necessity.
It's absolutely not required. From your description, it sounds like things are fine without it. Still, I recommend trying some, especially if insertion is slow or at all uncomfortable for you or her.
