RPG's suggestion
I personally recommend Suikoden 3--the storyline is uniformly excellent, and most of the characters have actual motivations behind their actions. Amazing, that.
Also, I agree about Disgaea, and the recently release La Pucelle Tactics. Both are strategy RPG's with a serious bent attitude. Of the two, Disgaea is the better, IMHO.
Finally, I'm going to go out on a limb here and claim Metal Gear Solid 2. Despite what you may have heard from others, I think it is truly classic. Not gonna say anything else, tho. Make up your own mind, of course.
