The delete function is still based on the client rules. If the client rule is to move it to deleted items, that's what it does.
Just a note, don't mix IMAP and POP clients for the same account. It won't work as expected. My boss did that....we run exchange in the office with outlook. He went home and set up a pop account and then couldn't understand why it was downloading like 2000 messages to his home comp when he just wanted his new ones....that and POP doesn't support the folder structure.
