All he was doing was removing a physical barrier between the two, so why do it that way? Why not just go around it?
You might have to remove some of the insulation from the two points as well, but that's not quite the same as "scraping away at your card." Just a thought.

Ha ha, I'd scrape away at my card before taking a soldering iron to it, and that's after taking two levels of Electronics in High School! I just can't see physically fucking with a videocard that costs $400-$500.
